INTRO TO SILK PAINTING: ALL LEVELS

In this 2-day workshop, beginners and intermediate alike will learn to complete their own hand-painted creations on silk. Using professional steam-set dyes and resists, we will develop a “sampler” of different techniques rather than one completed work. Traditional outlining with resists, watercolor blending, salt effects, “direct” treatment of fabric and other techniques will be explored.

These techniques can later be utilized to yield pieces suitable for pillows, wall hangings or scarves. Students who have previously used flowable silk” paints” will be amazed at the intensity of these dyes, which will be steam set on the last day of class. Demonstrations and critiques given.

“FUNKY- FIBER- FUN” ALL LEVELS   SEPT 23 & 24th  11-4 pm

In this comprehensive 2-day workshop, students will add further embellishments to their own hand-painted creations. Students will bring their own item to be adorned, be it T shirt, pillow, apron, (silk scarf, fine art hanging etc.)    

Using professional dyes, resists, and paints, incorporating discharge & dye removal techniques, we will explore stencils, stamps, wood blocks, crayons, metallic foils & more to add depth, texture and interest to the piece.

**Most of these techniques can also translate to garments& other fabric types.  Imagination RULES!!

SILKPAINTING, WAX, DYE & BATIK TECHNIQUES (intermediate level) OCT 14 & 15 11-4PM

In this class we will utilize traditional batik techniques (tjanting tool, wax crackling, pleating) as well as integrate new “Neo batik “methods to add depth & texture to the artwork, whether it be wearable or a wall piece. **Students should bring a well thought out idea or sketch, as well as some previous work with them to the first class.
